To be totally honest, a sepia tone road is a bit cliche. There's nothing wrong with this picture; it's just kind of like a sunset photo in that there are so many very similar to it, so it's not very eye-catching.

One thing I can think to do differently is to have a mysterious building or something in the shot, inconspicuous and off to the side, just to make the viewer wonder. Or you can photoshop it so that each side of the road shows a different world, and the y contrast each other in some way. Like, one side is a big city, the other is a corn field. Or one side is winter, the other is summer. Or each side has famous landmarks from places that are 1000's of miles apart. Use your imagination...

of dull to not be eye catching?

That's a great idea and if I had Photoshop
or I had time to use a better version of it
online then I would. I have a wild imagination,
but not much time to thoroughly express it, sadly.

To portray boredom is a strange goal in art. And I'm not sure if making the picture itself boring is the way to go about it.
